Mentoring & Training Programme

Mentoring & Training Programme

With the Mentoring & Training Programme, Klinikum rechts der Isar and the School of Medicine and Health offer their young scientists a diverse and established support programme that is geared towards the requirements of a modern university hospital.

The target group of the Mentoring & Training Programme is female scientists and doctors with a doctorate who are aiming for habilitation. As women are underrepresented at higher management levels in university medicine, we are particularly pleased to receive applications from female junior staff.

 Programme Structure

The Mentoring & Training Programme covers a period of 18 months. In addition to mentoring, all participants receive professional coaching and training (see below). Moderated network meetings round off the programme.

In the Mentoring & Training Programme, mentees have the opportunity to choose their own mentor. The mentors (if required) and mentees are prepared for their roles through appropriate workshops and counselling services. The coordination office supports and accompanies the mentees and mentors in all matters relating to the implementation of the mentoring programme.

The programme includes the following components for approx. 15 participants:

  • Framework programme (kick-off, introductory, interim and final event
  • At least 3 one-to-one mentoring contacts
  • 5 workshops with the topics: Position and goal setting, career planning, career development through research funding, dialogue management and leadership skills
  • Optional: 4 individual coaching sessions
  • Optional: 10 soft skills training days to choose from
  • Supervision for mentors if required
  • Accompanying evaluation
  • Mentoring certificate

You can find more detailed information on the mentoring programme here: Mentoring & Training Programme Flyer.pdf

Regarding the costs of the programme: The University Hospital and the Faculty of Medicine allow you to participate largely free of charge. Costs are only incurred for travelling, accommodation and meals at the two external workshops. In general, you have the option of charging these costs to your institute as a training trip.

Mentoring in general:

Mentoring is an established instrument of personnel development in business, industry and science, which has also proven its worth in the promotion of young scientists in university medicine. At the heart of the programme is the development of a personal relationship between mentor and junior scientist (mentee).

The mentors usually hold a professorship or private lectureship and support the mentees as advisors in all matters of concrete and strategic career planning. The mentees thus gain valuable insights into the unwritten rules of the academic world and become more involved in informal and formal networks and research organisations. The mentors are often also perceived as important role models in terms of balancing work, family and leisure time.
