Research Funding

Faculty of Medicine

A survey at the Klinikum rechts der Isar (Cramer, Hanika & Diehl-Schmid 2016, Küche, Kinder, Professur) indicated that female physicians spend significantly more time on patient care than on scientific activities compared to their male colleagues – even if they are focused on their careers. In order to enable female physicians to spend more time on research, the Faculty of Medicine and the KeCK Coordination Office offer two short-term financial grants annually, to write their own research proposals/publications or to work on their habilitation. The release from health care activities is for one month full-time or part-time with appropriate extensions. Preference is given to applicants who have additional burdens for family reasons (e.g., childcare, care of relatives, etc.).

Further scholarships specifically for the final phase of habilitation are planned, for which the necessary funds have yet to be raised.

In addition, the intramural clinician scientist funding program (introductory and main program) KKF is available to you; the Coordinator Dr Julia Brandt will advise you on this.

National and international research funding

At TUM Equal Opportunities you will find foundations that specifically support female students and academics. The TUM Scholarship Office of the Student Service Center as well as the DAAD scholarship database offer numerous funding programmes that can be clearly sorted according to target groups. National and international funding opportunities  as well as current research projects can be found on the website of the Faculty of Medicine.

The Helmholtz Postdoc Programme is an individual funding programme that lasts two to three years and is designed to support young scientists after they have completed their doctorate so that they can continue their scientific careers effectively.

The Christiane Nüsslein-Volhard Foundation for the promotion of science and research supports talented young women with children, thereby enabling them to create the freedom and mobility required to further their scientific careers. It is aimed specifically at graduate students and postdoctoral fellows in the fields of experimental natural sciences and medicine.
