Networking

Professional and private networking represent an important component in career development. TUM Equal Opportunities as well as KeCK, the Coordination Office for Equal Opportunities and Career Planning, offer you several opportunities to further expand your network. You can find various offers and relevant dates at the Faculty and TUM under Events and News. In the following, we have alphabetically listed some professional women's networks that may be of interest to female physicians and scientists.

The Alumni Club of the Faculty of Medicine of the Technical University of Munich

The Alumni Club of the Faculty of Medicine is a non-profit association that serves the interests of students, graduates and teachers of our university and offers opportunities to maintain or intensify contact with the Faculty and the Klinikum, even after the period of study or dedicated activity.

Joint events enable you as alumni to find contacts with students and graduates, refresh your medical knowledge and gain new impetus for your professional activities by receiving information on current developments. Last but not least, this gives you the opportunity to support and promote future medical graduates.

As a student, you can expand your knowledge through reports on practical experiences from alumni, receive sponsorship for exchange programmes or receive support for exam celebrations or continuing education and training events. You can find more information and the membership application here.

Professorinnen-Forum (Forum for Female Professors)

At the Professorinnen-Forum, female professors at TUM meet once a semester to socialize, network, and generate new ideas. In a relaxed (and safe) environment, TUM female professors can exchange strategies and ideas on how to strengthen the presence and influence of female professors at TUM.

Women of TUM

The Women of TUM are an inclusive and lively network that is growing rapidly and connects women* worldwide and across disciplines. It contains over 18 000 female students, 120 female professors, and with each year more and more alumnae.

Professional associations        

The various medical professional associations play an important role in professional development. Therefore, it is highly recommended to keep up to date with the relevant professional association and to always be present. You can find an alphabetical overview of the German medical professional associations here.

AcademiaNet 

The Robert Bosch Stiftung (Robert Bosch Foundation) and the publisher Spektrum der Wissenschaft have created "AcademiaNet", a platform that provides visibility and easier access to outstanding female scientists from all disciplines. This is intended to facilitate the filling of leadership positions and committees with female scientists. In order to be accepted as a female scientist at AcademiaNet, one must be recommended by apartner organisation(e.g., DFG, Robert Bosch Foundation, Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft or Helmholtz Association).A direct application is not possible. In order to be nominated, a number of admission criteria must be fulfilled (e.g., publications, prizes and awards, leadership of one's own research group).

BPW -  International Empowering Women Leading Business

BPW International is an international network for female business owns and executives with affiliates in over 95 countries on 5 continents. The organisation is also represented in Germany.                             

Business and Professional Women – Germany e. V.

BPW Germany is an umbrella organisation of 44 regional BPW Clubs in Germany that promotes equal opportunities in work, business, politics and society. Professional women from all sectors are welcome and committed.  BPW Germany is particularly committed to the integration of women into leading positions in business and politics as well as to more qualified jobs for women.
There is also a location in Munich. The club is the largest in Germany with 130 women as members. A variety of event types are offered, as well as a regular club evening once a month with lectures, events, workshops and networking for members and guests, which requires registration. Evening events are usually held at the IBZ - Internationales Begegnungszentrum der Wissenschaft (International Meeting Centre of Science) (Amalienstrasse 38). Admittance begins at 7 p.m.

Business Networking für Frauen in den neuen Medien (Business Networking for Women in the New Media)

This is a nationwide network of women who exchange views on a variety of topics and points of focus via mailing lists, meetings, workshops and online events – also represented on social media such as Facebook and Twitter.
In the Munich area, the webgrrls host monthly lectures in the Seidlvilla, and every two months there is a webgrrls breakfast for the self-employed and a Twittagessen. In addition, there are four network meetings in spring, summer, autumn and winter as well as an excursion. Trade fairs, lecture events, action events such as Equal Pay Day, IsarCamp, Munich Web Week are also on the programme.

Connecta – Das Frauennetzwerk e.V.

Connecta is a women's network for all professional fields and all age groups. In addition to networking, Connecta organises regional and nationwide events, lectures, seminars and workshops. Connecta is currently represented at 5 locations in Germany. These include Hanover, Kassel, Düsseldorf and Nuremberg as well as Munich. Networking evenings are held here on a regular basis. The networking evenings take place on the second day of an even month in Café Pinguin at Max-Weber-Platz. They always start at 8 p.m. In addition, there are occasional theme evenings, each of which begins at 8 p.m. in the Seidlvilla at Nikolaiplatz 1b.

Deutscher Akademikerinnen Bund e.V.

The Deutscher Akademikerinnen Bund (German Association of Women in Academia, DAB) is concerned with empowering female academics to use their expertise effectively, improving the status of women and girls through gender mainstreaming, and helping to reconcile family and career. Currently, the DAB is represented by local groups in 26 cities in Germany. These meet for regular events. The Bavarian local groups are represented in Bayreuth, Erlangen, Nuremberg and Munich. Deutscher Ärztinnenbund 

German Medical Women’s Association (Deutscher Ärztinnenbund e.V. / DÄB) is a network of female physicians and dentists of all specialities and fields of activity and advocates for basic conditions in the medical profession in which there is a balance between professional and private life. To this end, the DÄB offers a forum for the exchange of ideas, networking and discussion and makes female physicians fit for their profession and career. As a representative of the interests of female physicians, the DÄB advocates for family-friendly working conditions and equal career opportunities for women.
In Bavaria, regional groups of the DÄB can be found in Bamberg, Regensburg, Würzburg and Munich. Group meetings in Munich take place at irregular intervals on Wednesdays at 7.30 pm at Lämmerstrasse 3 (Akadamikerpastoral) near the main railway station. Announcements are made by email or in the "Münchner ärztliche Anzeigen".

Deutscher Frauenrat

The Deutscher Frauenrat (National Council of German Women’s Organizations) is an umbrella organization of over 50 nation-wide women’s associations and organizations. Our members are professional and religious associations, women’s groups from political parties, trade unions and the German Olympic Sports Confederation, as well as non-partisan organisations with a diverse array of social and political objectives.  Together, the member associations of the National Council of German Women’s Organizations represent many millions of women. As an umbrella organisation, the National Council of German Women’s Organizations campaigns for equal opportunities and equal recognition of women and men at work and in the family, in society, politics, business and culture with the goal of "gender equality" developing common positions and concrete demands.
Conferences, workshops, events, lectures and the like are held throughout the year in various cities in Germany. You can see the dates in the calendar of events.

Zonta International

Zonta International is a worldwide association of professional women in positions of responsibility who are committed to improving the lives of women in the legal, political, economic, and professional spheres. With 128 nationwide Zonta Clubs, the network is also strongly represented in Germany. In Munich alone, there are four different Zonta International clubs that invite women to regular monthly meetings. The Munich clubs host regular club evenings.

The Zontaclub-Munichcity invites you to a club meeting every 4th Monday of the month at 7 pm at the Münchner Künstlerhaus-Stiftung at Lenbachplatz 8.

The Zontaclaub-Munich-I convenes once a month at 1 p.m. for a regular meeting at Cafe Kunsthalle, Theatinerstrasse 8.

The Zontaclub-Munich-2 hosts a club evening every 2nd Monday of the month at 7 p.m. in the Munich Künstlerhaus at Lenbachplatz.
